Preliminary Task Evaluation

I think my front cover and contents page for my preliminary task went well as I included main features such as the mast head, main image, sell lines etc. However, before this task I had no experience with Photoshop or its tools so had some initial struggle with inserting images and cropping them. I also had some issues with the layout of the magazine, I couldn’t quite get it to look the way I had originally wanted with my flat plans,  and so my magazine does not look as professional as it could but its still presentable.
I feel that my magazine would appeal to a student audience but more to post-16 students rather than secondary school students, focusing more on A-Level study than GCSE. My magazine includes vital information that students may need for that term, however my front cover is not as eye catching as it could be so may be overlooked by some students.
To improve this piece I could look more into the layout of magazines and improve my knowledge of tools on Photoshop, as then I can make the best use of Photoshop’s ability to create a better product.

I also feel that my Prezi presentation of the layout of a magazine cover and contents page went well as Prezi was simple to learn to use to the best of my ability and the features of the cover and contents were easy to identify within the examples I chose.

Chosen Brief

Preliminary exercise: using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally, candidates must produce a DTP mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program.
Main task: the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine.
All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate.
